The success story of Green Co rated company, green manufacturing case study of Kennametal and green exhibition case study of BIEC were discussed. The one-day session concluded with an address by Mr. Rajashekara, Senior Director, IMTMA on IMTMA - Green Manufacturing Cluster.

Training on “Machine Tool Design - MECHANICAL"

The 48-day training on ‘Machine Tool Design – Mechanical’ concluded at the BIEC on May 30. This was the 12th batch of the training program and 24 budding engineers, were trained intensively on designing of a turning center.

As a part of the course the delegates also visited the AMS and Ace Foundry, which gave them a hands-on-experience of the shop floor.

The trained candidates were inducted into companies like, Strategy Automation, Mechelonic Welders, Yuken, RSSk CNC Automation, Acumac, Ganesh CNC, Komet Precision, Micromatic Grainding and others.

Seminar on Automation Project Implementation – Key Driver to Smart Manufacturing, 25-26 April 2017, IMTMA Gurgaon

Smart Manufacturing is envisioned as the future of manufacturing. Today, manufacturing is becoming highly automated and IT-enabled or simply put, "Smart". While automation is fairly well established in manufacturing, by linking it with intelligent devices and a strong IT backbone, manufacturing systems are moving towards autonomous systems.  Therefore, automation is the first step towards implementing smart manufacturing.

The range of automation tools vary from simple, low-cost equipment to highly sophisticated and expensive systems. Appropriate level of automation reduces cost in manufacturing not only through increased productivity, but also improves quality through consistent and reliable production. However, for any automation project to be successful, several aspects such as selection of automation system, system integration and organizational environment needs careful consideration.

Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) had organized a 2 day programme on Automation Project Implementation – Key Driver to Smart Manufacturing on 25-26 April 2017 at Gurgaon.

The key focus areas of the program were as follows:

  • Overview of smart automation
  • Low Cost Automation and mechanisms for Smart Manufacturing
  • Smart sensing elements for automation
  • Selection of Pneumatic elements for Automation
  • PLC, VFD and Servo Controls for Automation
  • Robot Integration and Collaborative Robots
  • Automation System Integration and way forward to Smart Manufacturing
  • Discussion on case studies from industries
  • Group Exercises in Automation Project Implementation
  • Review of Group Exercises

The programme was conducted by Mr. Naresh Kantoor, Managing Director, Encon Systems, Mr. Gautam Doshi, Advisor, IMTMA & Industry experts from Festo India, Infinite Uptime & IFM India. The delegates were taken to a Plant Visit to SONA Koyo Steering Systems Ltd, Dharuhera, Haryana for Demo / observation of low cost automation projects.

The programme was highly interactive and participants were able to solicit guidance on specific technical issues from the expert faculty. Delegates from Bajaj Auto Ltd, Daimler India Comercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd, Donaldson India Filter Systems Pvt Ltd, Elmec Tools & Devices Pvt Ltd, HPL Electric & Power Ltd, JREW Engineering Ltd, Madaan Industries, ROOP Automotive Ltd, SETCO Automotive Ltd, Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd, Synergies Castings Ltd & TTK Prestige Ltd attended the seminar.

Opportunities in Manufacturing Industry for Electrical Engineers: KS School of Engineering Get an Insight

Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) organized an orientation seminar for electrical engineering students of KS School of Engineering, Bengaluru on 21 April 2017. Around 30 students including 8 female students along with their faculty attended the seminar. Mr. Rajashekara H.V., Senior Director, IMTMA conducted the orientation seminar.

Speaking to the students who were in their 8th semester and on verge of completing their degree course in another 2 months, Mr. Rajashekara threw light on the various options available for a job aspirant in the industry once they complete their education. He added that besides the everyday learning and earning an engineer plays an important role in serving the nation by increasing the capabilities of capital goods manufacturing through his knowledge and experience. For this students need to develop a passion for learning new technologies and apply the science that he has learnt in product development when he starts working.

Dwelling upon the prevailing gaps in terms of what students learn from institutions and what deliverables the industry expects when a fresh engineer starts working, Mr. Rajashekara highlighted the role IMTMA plays in bridging the gap and shaping the job aspirant for the industry through its skill design programmes. A corporate video of IMTMA was also played for the students on the occasion to make them aware of the Association’s activities.

Students were then taken for a visit to the Design and Productivity Institutes at the IMTMA Technology Centre where they gained a first- hand insight into the latest technologies and also learnt about the various facilities available at IMTMA to equip them for industry challenges. The sessions were highly interactive and students were able to solicit expert guidance on operating various machines.

Opportunities in the Manufacturing Industry for Fresh Engineers

IMTMA organized an orientation seminar for mechanical engineering students of Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering, Bangalore on April 17, 2017. Around 85 students and faculties from the college attended the seminar. Mr. Rajashekara H.V., Senior Director, IMTMA conducted the orientation seminar.

Briefing the students, Mr. Rajashekara spoke about the role of IMTMA in the manufacturing industry, the fundamentals of machine tools and its applications and the strengths of the Indian machine tool industry including its design skills and as a base for cost-competitive products and other related subjects. He briefly explained the students on smart manufacturing and latest innovations and trends such as Industry 4.0.  He stressed on the skill gaps between industry and academia and the need to bridge the same for which IMTMA is conducting various training programmes.

Students got the opportunity to visit the Design Institute and the Productivity Institute at the IMTMA Technology Centre in BIEC and gained an insight about the technologies and other facilities available for the training programmes. The session was highly interactive and the students were able to solicit guidance on specific technical issues in operating the machines.
